There is a way that seems right to a bat … but in the end it leads only to death.
Poor little bat. It went looking for a cool place to hang during the heat of summer and wound up down my chimney and inside my firebox.

It must have been there a while because it was very dried out. (a mummified bat – it was small, about the size of a mouse) Hubby and I just discovered it last night. I waited a full day to make sure it hadn’t moved before I opened the firebox door and removed it.

Poor little bat.
Just like happened to this poor little bat, so also this same thing happens to people in life. People in life go looking for a cool place to escape from the “heat” of life.
Life “heats up” with fiery conflict, troubles, and problems. There are all sorts of things which seem to promise a cool escape from the “heat” of life. We could fill-in-the-blank with all the many things out there promising a cool escape for us.
But all those things which look like a cool place to escape are really only a “stovepipe for a chimney” … leading down to a dead-end in a “closed firebox.” There’s no getting out.
What at first looked like a cool escape, winds up becoming a trap.
And in the end, it leads to our demise.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” – Proverbs 14:12
Don’t be like the poor little bat. Don’t go looking in the wrong places for a cool escape from the “heat” of life.
