Hubby had gone over to our son and daughter-in-law’s house to help “gut the hut.”
While the guys were busy doing manly things, my daughter and I had planned to hang out together. I was supposed to be over at her place at noon, and we were going to make shawarma wraps for lunch and watch Hallmark movies.
As is not uncommon, I was running late. A few minutes before noon (when I was supposed to be arriving) I texted my daughter that I was almost ready and would text her when I was on my way.
15 minutes later I had all my things together and was in the car ready to head over to her place. I sent her a quick text: “In the car and on my way.”
However … the message which actually went through was: “In the car and in my way.”
Hahaha! That typo is hilarious … because, when it comes down to it, it was indeed true. The whole reason I was late is because I was in my own way. I had made myself late.
When my daughter saw the text, she got a good laugh out of it too!
How often is this true when it comes to other areas of our life?
God is trying to mature us and grow us (spiritually, and also in general) … and we can’t get there because we are “in our own way.”
God is trying to get us to a certain place when it comes to our job/career … and we are having a hard time getting there “on time” because we are “in our own way.”
God is trying to get us to a certain place when it comes to our parenting … our marriage … our relationships with others … and we can’t get there because we are “in our own way.”
God is trying to get us to a certain place when it comes to our trust in Him and our faith … and we can’t get there because we are “in our own way.”
God is trying to get us to a certain place when it comes to forgiveness and healing … and we can’t get there because we are “in our own way.”
Let’s each take a look at our own life and see if God might be trying to get us to a certain place in a certain area … but we’re “running late” and having a hard time getting there because we are “in our own way.”
