Lift up your eyes.

Lift up your eyes.

Hubby and I went blueberry picking recently.   It was great fun!

As I stood in the berry field, concentrating on all the ripe blueberries hanging heavy from the bushes, I paused to lift my eyes  …

Immediately the verse popped into my head:    “Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already ripe for harvest!”  – Johnn 4:35

But nobody is lifting their eyes.    Everyone’s eyes are down gazing at their phones.   Everyone’s eyes are down, scrolling  …  and scrolling  …  and scrolling  …

Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already ripe for harvest!”

So we lift up our eyes and look …

Yeah, yeah  …  looks like lots of bushes.    But we don’t really see any harvest.   So, we turn our eyes back down to our phones.   We go back to our scrolling …

Lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already ripe for harvest!”

Lift up your eyes!   Look!

The fields are ripe for harvest!

Just lift up your eyes and look!

Lift up your heads, O you gates;   be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.    Who is this King of glory?   The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.    Lift up your heads, O you gates;  lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in.    Who is he, this King of glory:   The LORD Almighty – he is the King of glory.”    – Psalm 24:7-10

God is calling these verses out to us today, in 2026.   God is saying:

Lift up your heads, O you people of 2026!   “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.   Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore to send out workers into his harvest field.”   – Luke 10:2

Lift up your heads, you people of 2026, that the King of glory may come into the harvest field!

“Who is this King of glory?”  the people of the harvest ask.   The people of the harvest don’t know.

“The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle,” is our reply.

But we will never have this conversation with the people of the harvest if our eyes are down, scrolling on our phones.    We can’t have this conversation with the people of the harvest if we don’t even see the harvest.

So God reiterates it again!

Lift up your heads, O you people of 2026!    “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.   Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”   – Matthew 9:37-38

Lift them up, you people of 2026, that the King of glory may come in.

“Who is he, this King of glory?” the people of the harvest question.   The people of the harvest don’t know.

“The LORD Almighty – he is the King of glory,” we tell them.     We introduce the people of the harvest to King Jesus.    We bring King Jesus into the harvest field  …  so that the people of the harvest can meet this great King of glory too!

But we have to lift our heads!

We have to lift our eyes!

“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.”   – Mark 16:15

“Go and make disciples of all nations.”   – Matthew 28:19

We can’t obey Jesus’s command to us if our eyes are down  …  and if our heads are down, scrolling  …  and scrolling  …  and scrolling  …

I shared this quote last blog post, but it is so powerful I wanted to share it again in this blog post.   It is from John Lovell:

“We have right now only this fleeting moment.   Our lives are as the Bible says – a breath, a vapor.   And one day the world as we know it will roll up like a scroll, trumpets will sound, judgment will issue, and we’ll have all eternity to rest in the joy of the Father.    But it’s only right now that you and I have this burning opportunity to tell the world about Jesus Christ.     Have you considered that in Heaven there are no more souls to evangelize, there’s no more enemy to fight.       Now is our chance –  in this life, here and now to lift high the banner of Jesus Christ and advance it down the field.    It’s our time now to join the cosmic fight that rages all around us and risk all in the hope of being made useful in this great fight.     What lies beyond the veil of this world is the true war behind all wars, and you have a part to play in it.   You have a calling.    And through you the infinite power of God waits to be unleashed through your loving obedience to Him.     Do you realize that the Lord is poised ready to do great things through you?      Be useful.    Be able and willing to serve anywhere and everywhere the Lord leads you.    The King is calling you on this urgent mission  –  Go,  and make disciples.”
