We would all like to be blessed. In fact, we all would like to receive a blessing – daily – from God.
How do we do this?? How can we receive a blessing – daily – from God??
The Bible tells us:
“The LORD blesses the home of the righteous.” – Proverbs 3:33
What exactly does this look like??
If God blesses the home of the righteous, what exactly does righteousness look like??
One of my favorite passages on what righteousness looks like is Ephesians 4:25-32 … as well as … Ephesians 5:1-4.
A righteous person does not lie. “Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor.” – Ephesians 4:25 God blesses truthfulness.
A righteous person does not steal. “The person who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” – Ephesians 4:28 God blesses hard work.
A righteous person speaks words which bring life. “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” – Ephesians 4:29 God blesses wholesome speech which helps others.
A righteous person does not hold on to bitterness.
A righteous person is not an angry person.
A righteous person is not controlled by rage.
A righteous person is not prone to brawling and fighting.
A righteous person does not slander others.
A righteous person does not carry malice in their heart.
(Ephesians 4:31) God blesses peacefulness. God blesses love.
A righteous person is kind and compassionate. “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” – Ephesians 4:32a God blesses kindness. God blesses compassion.
A righteous person is forgiving. “Forgive each other just as in Christ, God forgave you.” – Ephesians 4:32b God blesses forgiveness.
A righteous person is sexually pure. “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity … because these are improper for God’s holy people.” – Ephesians 5:3 God blesses sexual purity.
A righteous person is not greedy. “But among you there must not be … greed, because this is improper for God’s holy people.” – Ephesians 5:3b God blesses contentment.
A righteous person does not participate in obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking. “Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or coarse joking, which are out of place.” – Ephesians 5:4 God blesses clean speech.
A righteous person is thankful. “ … but rather thanksgiving.” – Ephesians 5:4b God blesses a thankful heart.
So many ways we can be blessed! All we have to do is obey – daily – what God instructs … and we will be positioned to receive God’s blessing – daily – on our life.
