Guard and protect the “relational bridge.”

Guard and protect the “relational bridge.”

A relationship is like a bridge.

It takes effort to build a relationship.   It doesn’t just happen.   It takes work.   It takes time.

The bridge in these photos is a suspension bridge.   The bridge is being supported and held up by strong cables from overhead.

When it comes to building a “relational bridge,” trust is the cables which hold the bridge up.

If trust is broken, it is the same as clipping one of the support cables for the suspension bridge in the photo.

Speaking rashly to the person whom we are in relationship with could accidentally sever one of the important “support cables” of trust.

“The person who guards their lips guards their life, but the person who speaks rashly will come to ruin.”  – Proverbs 13:3

Flying off the handle and lashing out with harsh words can definitely clip the “support cables” of trust on the “relational bridge.”

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”  – Proverbs 15:1

If the trust is severed, the “relational bridge” will collapse!

Responding with kindness and a gentle answer protects the “support cables” of trust.

Guarding our words and watching what we say safeguards and protects the “support cables” of trust so that our “relational bridge” doesn’t come crashing down!

“The person who guards their mouth and their tongue keeps themselves from calamity.”  – Proverbs 21:23
