This summer, as I walked my daily loops for exercise around the front, a portion of the path I walked went between lavender.

The lavender was so beautiful in the early morning sunshine!

As I walked between the blooming lavender on each loop around, the air was filled with the fabulous fragrance of the blooming lavender … and … the busy sound of hundreds of bees on the lavender! Just a glance at the lavender and you could see the busy activity of bees everywhere!

Each time I came around on my loops and heard the busy activity going on … the verse would pop into my mind: “I must be about my Father’s business …” – Luke 2:49
As I walked, I couldn’t help but ponder the importance of living each day fully, faithfully doing what God has called us to do.
Over … and over … and over as I walked loops, I would pass by the section of lavender. And over … and over … and over the verse would pop into my mind: “I must be about my Father’s business …” – Luke 2:49
And over … and over … and over I would ponder my life, and pray that God would help me to be faithful to do what he has called me to do.
It is now September. Summer is gone. The lavender blooms are spent. The dried flowers still cover the plants on long stems, awaiting me to come gather them for lavender-sachets.
As I walk my loops for exercise, there are still a few random blooms here and there … with a random bee here and there.
But the hundreds of bees are gone. The air abuzz with activity is now silent. And each time I come around on my loops the verse pops into my head: “As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming when no one can work.” – John 9:4
Hubby and I have just finished watching through another XOverland series on YouTube (the “Return to Africa” series). One of the expedition team members was Dr. John, an ER doctor. At one point in the series Dr. John mentioned that, as an ER doctor, he has been by the bedside of many dying patients. And that without fail, every single one wished they could have more time with those whom they loved.
I’ve found myself pondering this statement ever since.
If an ER doctor were to be by my bedside, I don’t want to be wishing that I had more time with those whom I love, because I want to live my life – daily – pouring love into those whom I love. I want to live in such a way that I seize every opportunity – daily! I want to live, being intentionally busy about my Father’s business, doing what God has called me to do.
“I must be about my Father’s business …” – Luke 2:49
because …
“Night is coming when no one can work.” – John 9:4
