Jesus is the greatest example of humility. Jesus, who is God, was submissive to leave Heaven and come down to earth in order to rescue sinful fallen humanity from eternal punishment in hell.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to live a normal human life, experiencing the weakness and frailty of being human just like you and I experience the weakness and frailty of being human.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to live a normal human life, being tempted in every way just like you and I are tempted.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to allow sinful evil people to arrest him, even though he had done nothing wrong whatsoever.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to allow sinful evil people to beat him, unfairly, unjustly, and without cause.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to allow sinful evil people to torture him with crucifixion.
Jesus, who is God, was submissive to die in our place for our sin. In submission, Jesus paid the debt to God that you and I should be paying. Jesus suffered the punishment that you and I deserve.
“Christ Jesus, who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross!
“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11
God blesses humility. God blesses submission.
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus … he humbled himself …” – Philippians 2:5, 8
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then to God.” – James 4:6-7
“Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” – James 4:10
“’God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ Humble yourself, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” – 1 Peter 5:5-6
If we are wondering: “How can I be blessed?”
God blesses humility. God blesses submission.
