Hubby stepped out on the front porch to go to work this morning and he asked: “How did that get on the porch?”
There lay a big, long blackberry vine on the front porch.
I glanced down and … Ah-ha! Evidence!

The bear had been at it again!
I looked up at the hummingbird feeder, but it was still hanging in its place just like always.
I bet the bear changed his strategy and tilted the feeder sideways to drink out of it. Sure enough … the hummingbird feeder was completely empty!
Sneaky devious bear!
He learned last time that when he knocked the feeder down he lost all the goodness. So now he has changed his strategy. Check it out …

Formulating a strategy

Putting the plan into place … drink, drink, drink. Notice how he is using his great big bear paw to gently tilt the feeder as he drinks. And he’s using his other bear arm to hold himself up against the post. Very strategic!

Now to go around to the side and guzzle all the goodness from the feeder off the side kitchen door.
My wonderful thing to thank God for today is that my hummingbird feeders are still hanging this morning. When the bear carried off my prized hummingbird feeder two weeks ago I started bringing the feeders inside each night before I went to bed.
But then hubby and I needed to travel far away to a distant city … and the hummingbird feeders would have to survive while we were away.
Much to my surprise, they had not been messed with when we got back. Hence, I relaxed my vigilance and decided to leave the front and side feeders out all night.
Lesson learned!
From now on it’s a battle of strategy … me against the bear! For my part, can I actually remember to bring the feeders inside each night? (Ha!) And for the bear, can he prowl around long enough until he finds a night when I accidentally forget? We shall see … (haha!)
