Called out … when you least expect it!

Called out … when you least expect it!

Hubby and I were in a deep sleep.

Suddenly we were pulled out of sleep by a dreadful, terrible alarm sounding!

What on earth is that!?!   What did we do to make that terrible alarm go off??   How do we make it stop??   It’s going to wake everyone up!

Then came a voice-recording into our hotel room:  “There is an emergency in the building.   Please exit the building.   Do not use the elevators.”    Repeat:   “There is an emergency in the building.   Please exit the building.   Do not use the elevators.”

The dreadful, terrible alarm sounded again.

Ugh!!!

Hubby and I crawled out of bed.   We fumbled for our clothes and got dressed.   We could hear doors slamming out in the hall and people going past.   We made sure we had our phones, and hubby (brilliantly) made sure to grab his car keys.

We went out into the hallway and followed other bleary hotel guests to the stairwell at the end of the hall.

Down the stairs we all went  …  a sea of bleary strangers  …  called out, when we least expected it!   More and more people joined the mass of humanity descending the stairwell  …  as we all exited the building together.

To be honest, it was highly entertaining!

I’ve never been called out, in the middle of the night, while staying in a hotel.   It has happened to hubby twice in the past, on business trips.

Being called out is a great equalizer!   Every last one of us was caught unaware!   Every last one of us had messy hair.   Every last one of us looked bleary!   None of the ladies had makeup on.   There were no fancy outfits or nice clothing.   In fact, some people had literally left their rooms in their little pajama shorts, without a coat even!

Out into the cold night air we all went.   A surprising number of people were smart like hubby, and they had grabbed their car keys too.   All these people went straight to their cars to stay warm.   Hubby and I made our way around to the front of the building, headed to our car.   The cops were already there, their lights flashing at the entrance to the hotel.

Hubby and I gratefully climbed into our rental car and turned the heated seats on!   Yay for heated seats!   We don’t have heated seats in our cars back home.   But when you are called out in the middle of the night, heated seats sure are handy!

It wasn’t long before the fire truck showed up  …  it’s flashing red lights lighting up the night!   People milled around the front entrance  …  freezing in their little pajama shorts with no coat.

Then a ladder truck showed up.

The fire chief in his big red truck pulled up.

And around the corner of the building a third fire engine parked.   The firemen all trooped in  …  loaded down in their heavy gear.

We all had been called out  …  when we least expected it!

This right here is what it’s going to be like when Jesus comes back to the earth again.   We will be called out  …  when we least expect it!

The trumpet will sound!

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.  And so we will be with the Lord forever.”  – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Whoo-Hoo!   Even so come  Lord Jesus!
