Last fall someone very special from Idaho gathered her poppy seeds from her own poppy plants and sent them to me as a gift. Poppies are her favorite flowers.
I generously spread poppy seeds in every container I own!
Now … mid-summer I have been having the most fabulous time watching the poppy blooms open up!
The very first bloom to open was a purple bloom! Isn’t it stunning!

Then some pale pink blooms joined the poppy party! Yay!

Check out what opened up this morning! Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous!

It looked deep red, in the early morning light.
But as the day has gone on and as the sun has risen higher in the sky, the bloom color has mellowed out to a more rosy-mauve color.

So pretty!

I think this one is my favorite!
Also, check it out! I have adorable little poppy seed pods! So exciting!

Hopefully this means my poppy plants will reseed themselves this fall … and the wonderful gift, given by a very special someone in Idaho, will keep going and going!
Having never grown poppies before, I have been surprised how the beautiful blooms only last one short day … then the petals fall … and all that is left is a seed pod.
The verse comes to mind: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)
And all that’s left behind is a “seed pod” (so to speak). A “seed pod” which will re-seed into the next generation after we are gone. A “seed pod” which will keep going and going … perpetuating whatever was “bloomed” in our life.
When the short fleeting petals of our life fall to the ground … we all will have a “seed pod” which we leave behind … which will continue our legacy/impact into the next generation. (whether we have kids or not)
What are we “sowing” into the next generation?? (as we interact with the next generation at work, at the grocery store with the workers who help us, at the doctor’s office with the MA’s who check us in, with the server who waits our table at the restaurant, etc. etc. …)
What “seeds” are we leaving behind in their life which will bloom in the following season after our time is done?
